Egyptian style costumes
In most nightclubs and restaurants in Cairo, belly dancers are required to cover their belly. Most dancers use
a flesh-colored fishnet, removable piece which attaches to their bra. This piece is called a 'Shabaka'. Also possible is lycra, jersey, chiffon, depending on your costume style and color.
The traditional stage costume for bellydancers is called 'Bedlah', this is the typical two-piece costume which we
most commonly associate with bellydancing. This means, bra, belt, skirt, veil and armbands or anklets, beaded necklaces
and/or headbands.
Here is a photo and description of a professional Egyptian bedlah costume as you currently see in Cairo:
Wine and gold Bedlah.
Body-hugging stretch skirt from lycra, trimmed with rhinestones and gold beading around the hem and along the side slit to accentuate the leg.
The bra is sparkling with glass stones surrounded with rhinestones and beads. A black net Schabaka is attached.
The belt is doubled with one piece fitting around the waist dipping in front to join the main belt with a large beaded centerpiece. The belt is fully decorated with large glass stones, rhinestone band and plenty of beads.
The costume is completed with matching beaded sleeve and beaded anklets.
